Mildred I. Mann

Mildred I. Mann, 68, headed to heaven on May 3, 2007, from Kansas City.  She was born in Crockett’s Bluff, Arkansas, on May 16, 1938.  She was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Gunnell and Ellen Grace Gunnell, Arkansas County, Arkansas.  She graduated from DeWitt High School, DeWitt, Arkansas and attended Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.

She married Thomas C. Mann on Dec. 15, 1957, at Shiloh Methodist Church, Crockett’s Bluff.  He survives.  They lived in Little Rock for two years and moved to Joplin, Mo., in 1959.

She was employed by Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Mo., for 27 years, retiring in December, 1999.  She worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for 10 years and then as Medical Staff Coordinator until retirement.  She was an active member of The First United Methodist Church and served in various capacities there.  She was a member of the Tri-M Sunday School Class and the 55+Lunch Brunch.  She was a member of Chapter FI of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

She is also survived by three daughters and their spouses, Cindy and Rich Miller, Overland Park, Kan., Terri and Jerry Fields, Leawood, Kan., and Angie and Tim Lee, Rolla, Mo.;  nine grandchildren, Maxwell Preston Miller, Catherine Grace Miller, Madeline Corrine Miller, Christopher Thomas Fields, Ellen Grace Fields, Emma Renee Fields, Hannah Elizabeth Lee, Rebekah Elizabeth Lee and Abigail Elizabeth Lee.  She is also survived by five brothers and sisters-in-law;  William W. and Maxine Gunnell, Charles Andrew and Tricia Gunnell, John Paul and Martha Gunnell, Alvin Eugene and Nancy Gunnell and James Larry and Brenda Gunnell.  Other survivors are four sisters and their spouses, Betty Gean and Donald Eifling, Dorothy  Lou and Robert Inman, Gladys (Gigi) Johansson and Nancy Marie and John D. Taylor.

She was dearly loved by all who knew her.  The Lord Blessed us with a wonderful friend, sister, wife, Mom and Mimi whose memory will live forever in our hearts.

Visitation was First United Methodist Church in Joplin, Mo on Sunday, May 6th from 5-7 p.m.  A celebration of her life and burial will be held at Shiloh Methodist Church, Crockett’s Bluff, Ark., on Tuesday, May 8 at 10 a.m.  Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery, Crockett’s Bluff. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Fields, Christopher Fields, Larry Gunnell, Timothy Lee, Richard Miller and Maxwell Miller.

Arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Mo.
